Swayambhunath Stupa is an ancient hilltop stupa west of central Kathmandu, also known as the Monkey Temple for the monkeys that live on its hill. Believed to be over 2,000 years old, it is one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Visitors climb 365 steps to its white dome and gilded spire, painted with the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha, for panoramic views over the Kathmandu Valley.
