Choosing the right BHM college in Kathmandu can shape your entire hospitality career — from five-star hotel floors to international cruise lines and tourism leadership roles. This guide ranks the 10 strongest Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM) programs in the capital, verified against official college and university sources, so you can compare affiliations, programs, and practical training before you apply.
What Is BHM?
BHM — the Bachelor in Hotel Management — is a four-year undergraduate degree that combines hospitality operations with business management. In Kathmandu, BHM programs are awarded by Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, or Purbanchal University, or by foreign partner universities. Students study front office operations, housekeeping, food and beverage service, culinary arts, tourism management, and hospitality marketing — with internships in hotels that turn classroom theory into professional experience.
Graduates work in hotels, resorts, restaurants, airlines, cruise lines, and tourism companies, in Nepal and abroad. Because the degree is practical, the best BHM colleges are the ones with real training facilities and strong hotel partnerships — which is what this ranking weighs most heavily.
How to Choose a BHM College
The right BHM college depends on the degree you want, the university that will award it, and how much practical training you will get. Use these five checks before you apply:
- Match the degree to the awarding university. Check whether the BHM is awarded by a Nepali university — Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, or Purbanchal University — or by a foreign partner such as Queen Margaret University, the University of Sunderland, or Lincoln University College, and confirm the degree's recognition.
- Inspect the practical training facilities. A BHM is a hands-on degree: look for training kitchens, a teaching restaurant, housekeeping labs, and front-office practice areas, and ask where students do their internships.
- Ask about internships and placements. Strong programs place students in hotels in Nepal and abroad — compare partner hotels, placement support, and graduate outcomes before you apply.
- Check the entrance requirements. Admission criteria vary by college and awarding university, from minimum Grade XII percentages to entrance tests such as CMAT. Confirm the current requirements on the college's official website.
- Confirm fees and scholarships directly. Fees change from year to year and were not included in this guide; ask each college for its current fee structure and any scholarships.

Local Insights & Practical Advice
Most BHM colleges in Kathmandu cluster around Lainchaur, Baneshwor, and Putalisadak, so visiting several campuses in a single day is practical — but allow extra time for Kathmandu traffic. Ask to see the training kitchens, housekeeping labs, and teaching restaurants in person: for a hands-on degree like BHM, the quality of practical facilities matters as much as the affiliation. Confirm admission dates, entrance requirements, and fees directly with each college, since these change from year to year.
