Bhaktapur Durbar Square is the royal palace square of the medieval city of Bhaktapur, east of Kathmandu. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979, it is famed for the 55-Window Palace, the five-storey Nyatapola Temple and the Vatsala Temple. Its brick-paved courtyards, woodcarving and pottery traditions make it one of Nepal's finest examples of Newar architecture.
